Stable Weight Can Boost Longevity in Older Women, A New Study Reveals

A UC San Diego-led study published in the Journal of Gerontology indicates that women over 60 have higher chances of living past 90 with a stable weight (within 5% of their initial). Studying 54,437 Women’s Health Initiative participants, the research found that consistent weight increases the odds of reaching old age by 1.2 to 2 times, contrasting with reduced odds from unintentional pound loss. A steady weight signifies a balanced diet and active lifestyle, reducing chronic disease risks. For optimal health, older women should prioritise proper nutrition, regular exercise, stress management, hydration, and seeking social support.
