ICC Grants Equal Monetary Reward for Men’s and Women’s Cricket Teams

In order to promote gender parity, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has made a significant stride by announcing equal prize money distribution for both men’s and women’s teams participating in international events.

This groundbreaking move, announced during the ICC Annual Conference in Durban, South Africa, aligns with the broader objective of achieving prize money parity by 2030. This new milestone has surpassed the expected timeline by a considerable margin.

Henceforth, teams that finish in similar positions at comparable events will receive the same reward. Furthermore, the same monetary reward will be given for winning a match across these events.

The Women’s T20 World Cup champions in 2020 and 2023 were awarded a remarkable amount of $1 million, while the runners-up received a generous sum of $500,000. It was five times greater than the amount awarded in 2018.

The monetary reward for the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 has experienced a substantial boost, soaring from $2 million, the sum bestowed upon the victors in 2017, to an impressive $3.5 million.

As a result of incorporating a strategic investment fund aligned with the Global Growth Strategy, every ICC member will receive a significant boost in funding. This dedicated fund will be utilised to provide substantial support for global expansion initiatives.

The ICC has offered assistance to member nations in creating sustainable revenue streams and advancing the development of the game.

In upcoming events, it is now mandatory for teams to include a minimum of seven players from the local area or Associate Members. Furthermore, the organising Member is required to pay a solidarity fee to the Home Board for each player participating in the event.

The newly announced measures will go a long way towards creating a fair and equal playing field for all cricket players, regardless of gender or geographic location.
