An Astounding Increase in Demand for Women Apprentices in the Manufacturing Sector

According to the most recent data released by TeamLease Degree Apprenticeship, there has been a remarkable threefold increase (500%) in demand for female apprentices in the manufacturing sector during FY24 Q1, compared to the preceding quarter of FY23.

Several regions across India are exhibiting this positive trend, including the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Telangana, as well as the Western states of Maharashtra, particularly Aurangabad and Pune, and the northern states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Uttarakhand.

The manufacturing industry is actively promoting inclusivity by offering equal opportunities to both men and women in its apprentice programmes. Recent research indicates that 51% of employers are actively working towards achieving gender neutrality in the industry.

The optimistic shift is being fueled by industries like automobiles, auto components, and electronic and technology products, which have successfully eradicated compensation discrepancies within their sectors.

The demand for women apprentices is on the rise across various roles, with particular emphasis on machine operations and assembly line operations.

As per the report, the pharmaceuticals, telecommunications, and white goods industries are likely to follow this trend in the forthcoming months.

While men historically dominated the manufacturing field, there has recently been a noticeable shift towards a more diverse and inclusive workforce. By embracing a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and talents, the manufacturing industry can continue to evolve and thrive in the modern world.
