The Women’s Reservation Bill Introduced in Parliament

The Union government has introduced the Women’s Reservation Bill, named the Narishakti Vandan Adhiniyam, which proposes a 33% reservation for women in the lower house of parliament and state legislative assemblies. However, it won’t take effect in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as it requires a post-bill census for delimitation. The next delimitation is planned for 2026, potentially delaying the bill’s implementation until the 2029 general election.
