The 2024 Republic Day Parade May Feature All-Female Participants in the Contingents

The upcoming Kartavya Path Republic Day Parade of 2024 may feature all-female participants in the contingents, including marching and band units, tableaux, and other performances. An official memorandum has been circulated proposing the idea for the upcoming Republic Day Parade. The memorandum has directed all relevant ministries, departments, organisations, and agencies to make the necessary arrangements accordingly.

Over the past few years, the yearly parade on Rajpath, now called Kartavya Path, has featured female officers and groups made up entirely of women. Notably, some of these female officers have led contingents that consist of men.

The 74th Republic Day Parade had ‘Nari Shakti’ as the predominant theme, highlighting examples of women’s empowerment. Lieutenant Bhavana Kasturi spearheaded the Indian Air Force marching group during the 2023 parade, which comprised 144 air warriors. Three male officers were also present, although they were not included in the official count.

The Indian Army has taken measures to encourage gender diversity within its forces. The Army’s Regiment of Artillery has recently celebrated a momentous occasion with the induction of five women officers for the first time in its history. It is a significant step forward in gender equality within the armed forces.
