Remarkable! 81% Of the Beneficiaries of the JSS Scheme Are Women, Reveals Government

According to the government’s report to the Lok Sabha, out of the 1.38 million non-literate and newly literate individuals trained under the Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS) programme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in the past three years, over 81% of the beneficiaries of this programme were women.

The government’s data also revealed that approximately 46% of the 27.8 lakh young individuals who underwent training as part of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) were female beneficiaries. Over the last three years, MSDE has trained a sizable number of women, comprising roughly 34% of all trainees.

The government mentioned a few short-term schemes aimed at female empowerment through upskilling. These initiatives include PMKVY, JSS, the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and the Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS).

The PMKVY has made provisions for conveyance costs, boarding, and lodging facilities to encourage greater female participation.

JSS emphasises its focus on women and vulnerable sections. Additionally, it reserves 30% of the seats in ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes) for women, in accordance with the reservation policy of the respective state.

Undoubtedly, these initiatives will grant access to valuable upskilling opportunities and play a significant role in narrowing the gender gap within the workforce.
