Female Surgeons Yield Better Patient Outcomes, Reveals New Study

Recent studies in Canada and Sweden, published in JAMA Surgery, revealed that patients under female surgeons’ care experienced fewer postoperative complications. In Ontario, data from 1.2 million patients showed a decrease in unfavourable results within 90 days (12.5% with female surgeons vs. 13.9% with male surgeons) and one year (20.7% vs. 25%). Moreover, patients treated by male surgeons faced a 25% higher risk of one-year post-surgery mortality. A Swedish study of 150,000 patients echoed these findings.
