A Surprising Study Reveals Women Thrive as Superior Drivers in Ernakulam

It is common to undervalue or question the driving skills of women. However, a recent study conducted in the district of Ernakulam has brought to light an interesting finding.

Women demonstrate superior abilities in driving compared to men, when it comes to Ernakulam. The study called ‘Road Accidents in Kerala’ revealed that men have a significantly higher likelihood, 13 times to be precise, of being involved in unfortunate accidents.

The data collected between 2018 and 2022 shows that out of the total 60,384 individuals involved in accidents in Ernakulam, there were 56,000 males, 4,379 females, and five transgender individuals.

The Department of Economics and Statistics chose to study Ernakulam because it has the highest number of accidents in the state. Additionally, Ernakulam boasts the highest percentage of female drivers.

One plausible explanation for the higher rates among men is their distinct driving behaviour compared to women. It has been observed that men are more inclined to engage in high-speed motorcycling, which, in turn, could significantly contribute to the elevated risk.

In general, women drivers tend to drive at lower speeds, prioritising safety and caution. Conversely, male drivers may exhibit their driving skills by attempting challenging manoeuvres, but unfortunately, they also have a higher tendency to drive under the influence of alcohol, which poses a serious risk.

It is important to recognise the strengths of female drivers and to promote safe driving practices among all drivers, regardless of gender. By doing so, we can work towards reducing the number of road accidents and creating safer pathways for everyone.
