Jharkhand Grants 180 Days of Maternity Leave to Women Employees on Contract

The Jharkhand government provides a generous maternity leave of 180 days to its female contractual employees. This particular policy is applicable to women employees who have been working under a contractual agreement for at least 80 days within the previous 12 months.

In the past, non-permanent employees often encountered distinct challenges and uncertainties, particularly when it came to accessing parental benefits. The absence of such provisions meant they could not avail themselves of essential support during their pregnancy or post-pregnancy period.

However, recognising the need for inclusivity and fairness, the Jharkhand government has taken a significant step forward in addressing this disparity. Thanks to recent policy implementation, contractual female workers in the state can now access maternity leave benefits on an equal footing with their permanent counterparts.
