This Is How Women in Hyderabad Challenge Stereotypes in E-Auto Driving

In Hyderabad, a group of nineteen women hailing from marginalised communities are defying stereotypes associated with driving electric autos. At the forefront of this movement is Azmeera Bobby, a commercial pilot leading an inspiring endeavour to educate, train, and empower women from marginalised backgrounds to embrace auto driving as a profession.

The Shaheen Group (NGO) has joined forces with ETO Motors Pvt. Ltd.,https://www.etomotors.com/ a leading electric mobility service provider, to bolster this remarkable endeavour. In a collaborative effort, they generously provide electric autos to women who have completed their training.

Women initially receive comprehensive training in driving the e-autos under the ‘Women owner/driver partners initiative for livelihood and sustainability program.’ Upon completion of their training, these women have the opportunity to apply for licenses from the Regional Transport Authority.

In addition to the local women in Hyderabad, it extends its impact to other regions as well. Presently, there are 30 women in Delhi and 250 girls in Uttar Pradesh who are receiving training in collaboration with their respective road transport administrations.

Women can earn a daily income ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 1500 with the help of this initiative. They contribute Rs 500 to the group at the end of the day to ensure the smooth functioning of the group.

Once the training is over, they can pass on their knowledge to the next set of aspiring women, doubling their income as e-auto drivers and potential trainers.

Apart from being trained to drive, they are also equipped with customer service skills and valuable lessons to uphold a secure work environment. Training is available for women who are under the age of 36. The empowerment group is seeking assistance from the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) https://nsdcindia.org/and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) organisations https://msme.gov.in.

The initiative is doing its bit to challenge stereotypes and empower women from marginalised communities. It serves as a beacon of empowerment, promoting inclusivity and financial growth within the communities involved.
