Enhancing Safety and Comfort: Kerala Tourism Unveils an App for Women Tourists

The Kerala government’s tourism department is in the process of developing a mobile application as part of an initiative aimed at promoting gender inclusivity in the tourism sector.

The objective is to empower and support the establishment of 10,000 women-led businesses and generate 30,000 employment opportunities within the tourism sector. The project endeavours to engage 150,000 women from the state in collaboration with multiple reputed organisations, including UN Women.

While inaugurating the project, Tourism Minister PA Mohamed Riyas emphasised that the government’s policy focuses on establishing a welcoming environment for women tourists visiting the state. The recently introduced mobile application for women-friendly tourism will enrich the overall experience of female visitors in Kerala, ensuring their trip is delightful and convenient.

The application will furnish users with pertinent information and visuals pertaining to specific tourist locations in Kerala, showcasing their unique sociocultural characteristics.

The information will include details about handicraft and souvenir production and sales units run by women, as well as amenities such as restrooms, camping sites, licensed houseboats, caravan parks, and ethnic cuisine units located in different areas. Additionally, you can find information about festivals, experiential activities, and adventure packages.

The application not only provides comprehensive information about tourism in Kerala but also features extensive details on women-friendly tourism products and packages. It offers valuable information about resorts, hotels, women-owned enterprises, authorised tour operators, women-led tour operators, travel agencies, homestays, and women tour guides.

The information available within the app will encompass a wide range of details, including information about handicraft and souvenir production and sales units operated by women. It will also provide information about various amenities such as restrooms, camping sites, licensed houseboats, caravan parks, and ethnic cuisine units situated in different areas.

Additionally, users will be able to access information about festivals, experiential activities, and adventure packages, enhancing their overall travel experience in Kerala.

The launch of a women-friendly tourism mobile application is a significant step towards promoting gender inclusivity and fostering a secure and inviting atmosphere for women tourists.
