International Workers’ Day serves as a commemoration of the significant contributions made by workers from all around the world. Though asymmetrical payment is an issue relevant to all workers, regardless of gender, women workers are more likely to fall victim to this gender pay gap, implying that they earn less than men in spite of doing an equal amount of work.

Throughout history, women have faced discrimination in numerous ways, including workplace sexual harassment, pay inequality, and restricted opportunities for career advancement. Despite these challenges, women have been at the forefront of movements and activism, clamouring for better working conditions, higher wages, and safe work conditions.

Gender discrimination still persists, but women have made considerable strides in their efforts to eliminate it from workplaces. Labour Day is a significant occasion to recognise and honour the efforts made by women workers. It is also a chance to emphasise the need for equal treatment of women in the workplace.
